Small Molecules Can Starve Cancer Cells
Date: October 9, 2011
Summary (8-10 sentences)
All cells in our body have a system that can handle cellular waste and release building blocks for recycling. The underlining mechanism is called autophagy which means “self-eating.” The molecules are called microRNA-101 and are found naturally in our body. MicroRNA-101 can turn off specific genes and inhibit autography in cancer cells. The next step for the researchers is to investigate whether other microRNA molecules are involved in the regulation of autography in cancer cells. After that they will take a closer look at the job of microRNA-101 in normal development of our organism and in the development of cancer.
What you found most interesting about the article and why (4-6 sentences)
I found it interesting that we have our own anticancer cell in our body. I found that interesting because even though we have that cell, people still get cancer. But if they put more microRNA-101 into our system it kills off cancer.

I found this interesting because they finally figured out something that could cure cancer that is naturally in our bodies. Its cool that they dont have to put more harmful chemicals into our bodies. Thank you for informing me. 🙂
I did not know that cells can reause there wast and use it for some thing use full and that MicroRNA-101 turnes this off, and that this could couse cancer.
Nice Information!!
I found it interesting that autophagy means “self-eating.” I also thought it was interesting that we anticancer cell in our body. Nice job
Hopefully this research can lead to future cancer cures! Great job and intersting article!
